Are there any tips for obtaining the best board thickness value on the 5DX AXI system?

The option for automated board thickness measurement allows the 5DX to automatically compensate for variation in substrate (printed circuit board) lamination thickness. To obtain the best board thickness value, the 5DX internal algorithm moves the stage in steps and captures an image at each step. After sampling several images, the clearest image is used for determining the optimum board thickness value. The BRDTHICK.CFG file in the CALIB directory specifies the number of steps the stage will move and the increment of each step. The default settings in this file are: 2 5.0 2 2.0The first line indicates that for the coarse measurement the stage will make two steps of 5mils each time. The second line indicates that for the fine measurement the stage will make two steps of 2mils each time.Depending on the choice of feature used during the thickness measurement (and the nominal board thickness programmed) a user may find that changing the number of steps will improve the thickness detection. i.e. 4 4.0 4 2.0Be aware that increasing the number of steps will require additional time for each board, and that this parameter is a system level setting and will affect all boards tested using the Automatic Thickness detection process.
