This certification is similar to UL489 certification, but it specifies that it is intended to cover branch-circuit overcurrent and short-circuit protection in communication equipment. Because of the specific nature of this application, testing requirements related to overload and endurance tests are slightly less intensive. UL489A devices are not interchangeable with UL489 devices.
