What does IP rating mean, what is the difference between IP54 and IP67?

Ingress Protection (IP) is an international standard for the level of protection an enclosure offers from foreign objects and water (EN 60528).  The first number represents the level of protection from solid objects: 5 meaning dust protected and 6 a dust tight enclosure.  The second number represents the level of protection from liquids: 4 meaning protected from splashing water and 7 from temporary immersion.
